Research on FSHD
The proceeds are largely spent on the Utrecht research group of Prof. Geijsen at the Hubrecht Institute. The Hubrecht Institute is affiliated with the Utrecht UMC. Professor Geijsen and his staff are looking for a way to repair a broken gene in the diseased muscles of people with FSHD. A microscopic pair of scissors - CRISPR-Cas - plays an important role in this. The team is investigating how to cut the DNA to eliminate the pathogenic FSHD gene.
The funds also benefits to the following authorities
Yumen Bionics - Developing a arm exoskeleton and its market introduction
Radboud University Nijmegen - Research into the effect of antioxidants / oxidative stress in FSHD
LUMC Leiden - Development of anti-body treatment for FSHD
Radboud University Nijmegen - Facial weakness in FSHD
